Promoting good brushing habits has never been easier- kids will love turning over our sand timer until all their teeth are clean and their brushing is done.

How to pack toothbrush properly?

When you brush correctly, you eliminate the plaque buildup and bacteria that can otherwise collect between your teeth and on your tongue. This can prevent gum disease and tooth decay, as well as promote a stronger immune system and a healthier lifestyle. Here’s our step by-step guide to brush correctly!

Choosing your toothbrush:

There are certain features that you should look for in whatever toothbrush you choose, most importantly size and bristle variety.
The best toothbrush head for you should allow you easy access to all surfaces of your teeth. For most adults, a toothbrush head 1.5 cm wide and 2.5 cm tall will be the easiest to use and the most effective. Though there are larger toothbrush heads available, you may find that it is difficult to manoeuvre them to clean deeper areas, such as the sides and backs of your molars. The toothbrush should have a long enough handle so you can comfortably hold it in your hand.
If you visit the pharmacy to purchase your toothbrush, you will be able to select a toothbrush with soft, medium, or hard bristles (usually nylon). For the vast majority of people, a soft-bristled toothbrush will be the most comfortable and safest choice. Depending on how hard you brush your teeth and the strength of your teeth, medium- and hard-bristled brushes could actually damage the root surface, gums and protective tooth enamel. For even more tooth protection when you brush, we recommend choosing rounded toothbrush tips.

Choosing your toothpaste:

It is important that you use toothpaste that is right for you. Today there is a wide variety of toothpaste designed for many conditions, including cavities, tar, stained teeth and sensitivity.
Fluoride is perhaps the most sought-after ingredient in toothpaste; most, if not all, toothpastes contain fluoride. Fluoride helps to keep teeth healthy and is of particular importance for children and the elderly, whose teeth are weaker. It also protects tooth enamel from eroding, as well as preventing plague buildup and cavities. When using fluoride-based toothpaste, make sure you do not ingest it because ingestion can cause dental fluorosis. For children, it is a good idea to use only a pea-sized amount of toothpaste during every brushing, to help, use our Flipper Whale Toothpaste Squirter to encourage children to use the right amount of toothpaste.

The brushing process:

The entire process should take about 2 minutes. Simply rotate the Flipper Owl Sand-Timer to get started!
  1. Lubricate your brush with a small amount of water. Put a small amount of toothpaste — about the size of a pea — on the head of the toothbrush.
  2. Insert the toothbrush into your mouth at about a 45-degree angle to your gums and use gentle strokes to brush your front teeth.
  3. Brush the outside surfaces of your teeth, making sure to get the back molars and upper areas of your mouth surfaces.
  4. Flip the toothbrush upside down to get the inside surface of your top front teeth. Flip it back around to get the inside surface of your bottom front teeth.
  5. Brush your tongue to get rid of any bacteria buildup or plaque that has gotten stuck there during the brushing process.
  6. Spit out the remnants of toothpaste, saliva, and water into a clean sink. Finish by rinsing your mouth with cold water.
